Coir Blanket

erosion control

Coir blanket, also known as coconut blanket, are natural erosion control products made from coconut fibers that are woven together to form a mat or blanket. They are biodegradable, sustainable, and easy to install, making them a popular choice for landscapers, gardeners, and construction professionals alike. The benefits of a coco blanket include strong netting, measured quality, fiber that is not easily broken, allowing it to last for a long time, and eco-friendliness.

More About Coir Blanket

When used for erosion control, the coir blanket is placed over bare soil in areas where erosion is likely to occur. It helps to stabilize the soil and prevent erosion by absorbing water and allowing vegetation to grow through the mat. It also helps to retain moisture in the soil, which is beneficial for plant growth.

Type of Coir Blanket

There are two type of coir blanket, such as coir blanket with coco fiber and coir blanket with straw.

Coir Blanket with Coco Fiber

Coconut coir blankets are ideal for hill stabilization. In addition to erosion control, the use of coir is ideal for revegetation of hillsides. Coir fibers can be used as planting material to support plant roots.

Coir Blanket with Straw

Coir blanket with straw filling, performs nearly identically to coir blanket with coco fiber in terms of functionality. One distinguishing feature is that straw has a greater nutrient value than coco fiber.

How does a coir blanket work?

A coir blanket functions by stopping soil runoff and stabilizing the earth. Stakes or other anchoring devices are used to hold the blanket on top of the earth. The coir strands form a matrix that serves to keep soil in position and encourages vegetation development.

How should a coir covering be installed?

Remove any rocks, detritus, or plants from the earth before installing a coir covering. After that, the cloth is laid out on top of the earth and fastened with stakes or other anchoring devices. Finally, fully water the blanket to activate the coir strands and encourage vegetation development.
